The MATS Academy is a premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy serving Dallas, Fort Worth, Keller, North Richland Hills, and Colleyville, Texas. We provide high-quality BJJ training for kids, teens, women, and adults focused on self-defense, fitness, discipline, and competition training.
In addition to our core programs, we offer private exclusive BJJ training, yoga classes for recovery and mobility, and open mat sessions every Sunday, giving students the opportunity to refine their skills, improve flexibility, and train in a collaborative environment.
Our structured programs are designed for all skill levels—from beginners looking to get started in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area to advanced students aiming to sharpen their techniques. At The MATS Academy, students develop confidence, mental toughness, and physical strength in a supportive and motivating environment.
Whether you’re searching for kids martial arts in Keller TX, BJJ classes near North Richland Hills, or self-defense training in Fort Worth, The MATS Academy is your trusted local training center for growth on and off the mat.
Absolutely. Our women’s presence on the mat is strong—beginners, athletes, and competitors alike. Jiu-Jitsu is especially effective for women because it doesn’t rely on power. We take great care to make sure the training environment is respectful, clean, and supportive.
Nope. Most people who walk through our doors have zero background in martial arts. Our coaches will meet you where you’re at and help you grow from there.
Kids can start as young as 5 years old. That’s when they’re typically ready to follow instruction, engage in class structure, and begin the foundations of Jiu-Jitsu.
You’ll find a diverse mix of athletes on our mats:
– Parents getting strong again
– Professionals decompressing after work
– Black belts who want a clean, intelligent training room
– Returners who needed a break and found their way back
– Beginners who just decided to stop waiting
Some are training for tournaments, while some are training for life while all are here to get better!
A clean t-shirt and yoga pants or shorts are great for your first class. We have loaner gear available and uniforms for sale if you decide to continue.
No striking is allowed in Jiu-Jitsu. There’s always some physical contact (it’s grappling, after all), but there’s no punching or kicking. Our training is technical, not aggressive.
